Our programs in Interior Architecture are both research and making intensive. Students can tailor their curricular path to their interests and professional aspirations, mixing and matching different areas of focus such as community-engaged design, sustainability, product design, and historic preservation. All curriculums are anchored in the commitment to making designs that promote social, psychological, and ecological well-being.

CC-ED

The Center for Community-Engaged Design is an interdisciplinary research center that fosters community/university partnerships for meaningful research and design of the built and natural environments. CC-ED collaborates with community partners, non-profit organizations, and municipal departments to address design-related projects in underserved areas and for underrepresented populations in the Piedmont-Triad area.

Main Street Fellows

Since March of 2016, the North Carolina Main Street Program has partnered with UNCG’s Interior Architecture Department and its Center for Community-Engaged Design to provide design assistance to the 94 Main Street communities across the State. So far, 49 undergraduate and eight graduate Main Street Fellows working with Professor Travis Hicks and Professor Emerita Jo Leimentoll have completed designs for over 275 projects in over 50 NC towns.
