Preservation & Interior Architecture: A Match Made in Design

Preservation & Interior Architecture: A Match Made in Design

Posted on March 7, 2017

The North Carolina Main Street & Rural Planning Center partnered with the UNCG Interior Architecture Department in 2016 to provide design assistance to the downtown areas of small towns and communities across the state (example pictured below). This partnership provides a newer and broader portfolio of services that not only help with economic development, but also promote and maintain the importance of downtown.
The emphasis that the UNCG Department of Interior Architecture has on historic preservation made these two associates the perfect match. The project is directed by Professor Jo Leimenstoll, who participated in the Main Street program even before joining UNCG. Jo continues to dedicate time to this program and has a group of graduate and undergraduate students known as the “Main Street Fellows.” The students participating in this partnership have the opportunity to work with the community and apply design solutions to real life projects. Jo and four of her students will attend the NC Main St. Conference on March 14th & 15th.
