“Since March of 2016, The North Carolina Main Street Program has partnered with the UNCG Department of Interior Architecture Center for Community-Engaged Design to provide design assistance to the 94 Main Street Communities across the State. By June 30, 2019, 19 undergraduate and five MFA Main Street Fellows have completed designs for over 162 facade proposals (counting front and rear facade proposals separately) and 14 upper story apartment proposals in 48 NC Towns.
The NC Main Street Program, within the NC Department of Commerce, works to stimulate economic development within the context of historic preservation, using a comprehensive approach to downtown revitalization based on Economic Vitality, Quality Design, Effective Promotion, and Sustainable Organization. Main Street is a program of the non-profit National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.”
