How to Apply
Undergraduate
The priority deadline for students applying for the fall 2027 cohort is January 31st. All undergraduate secondary applications to our program are due by March 15th.
We do not accept applications for Spring or Summer enrollment.
Apply to UNCG
Step 1: Complete the application to UNC Greensboro; it can be found here: http://www.admissions.uncg.edu.
At this point, students are accepted to UNCG as Pre-Interior Architecture and Design (PINA) majors. This means you are interested in majoring in Interior Architecture and Design but still need to apply to the program.
Apply to the IARc Department
Step 2: Complete the secondary application to the Interior Architecture and Design (IARc) department. In addition to your UNCG application, this secondary IARc application must be completed for you to be considered for admission to our BFA program. To start your application:
- Go to the admission portal.
- Click on the Interior Architecture and Design Secondary Application in your checklist.
- Click on Start New Application.
- Click on the Application Cycle drop-down option.
- Select the Interior Architecture and Design option.
- Click on Create New Application.
- Click on Open Application.
You will then be able to see the application instructions and requirements. There are four parts of the secondary application.
Students without prior college credit from an architecture, interior architecture, or interior design program are required to complete the essay, visual representation, and video requirements. The portfolio is optional but strongly encouraged for these students. The other three parts of the application are not optional.
Students applying as transfer students with prior college credit from an architecture, interior architecture, or interior design program are required to complete all four parts: the essay, visual representation, video, and portfolio requirements.
After you submit the IARc secondary application, our department head and undergraduate admissions committee will review it. If you are admitted to the program, you will be notified via email, so it’s important that you check your email regularly for updates.
If you are admitted, you will receive an acceptance letter via email along with a link to our departmental Intent to Enroll (ITE) form. In addition to the UNCG ITE form, you must complete the IARc ITE form to reserve your spot in the program, and for your major to be updated from Pre-Interior Architecture and Design to Interior Architecture and Design. If you do not return the form by the deadline stated in your acceptance letter, you will forfeit your spot in the program to someone on the waitlist.
After we receive the IARc ITE form, your major will be updated. Once it’s updated, you are officially an Interior Architecture and Design student!

If you are a new UNCG student, register for Spartan Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR), where you will have help registering for classes.
If you are currently a UNCG student switching to the Interior Architecture and Design major, you do not need to attend SOAR again. You should contact the UNCG College of Arts & Sciences Advising Center (CASA) to set up a meeting with an advisor who will assist you in registering for classes.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
Those applying for the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate are strongly encouraged to apply by April 1.
To apply online, visit the Graduate School web site. Remember that electronic or manual portfolios should be sent to the department if files are too big for the Graduate School online system. Transfer Students
IMPORTANT: Transfer students are students who are transferring from another institution with Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or related credits. These are the only students who have credits that will be considered for advanced placement within the program. If you are a student transferring with an A.A. degree, please follow directions to complete the undergraduate application.
Transfer students may also visit the Transfer Equivalency Course Search website for more information regarding whether courses taken at other institutions will be accepted at UNCG.

This is required to be considered for advanced placement within the department.
Students transferring to UNCG without prior college credit from an architecture, interior architecture, or interior design program are required to complete the essay, visual representation, and video requirements. The portfolio is optional but strongly encouraged for these students. The other three parts of the application are not optional.
After you submit the IARc secondary application, our department head and undergraduate admissions committee will review it. If you are admitted to the program, you will be notified via email, so it’s important that you check your email regularly for updates. After you are admitted, our department head will determine your eligibility for advanced placement in the program. You will then be notified via email of the courses that will transfer and your placement in the program, and you will also receive a tentative plan of study.
Please make sure UNCG receives your official transcripts so that they may be articulated, and the accepted courses are applied to your record.
With your acceptance letter you will receive a link to our departmental Intent to Enroll (ITE) form. In addition to the UNCG ITE form, you must complete the IARc ITE form to reserve your spot in the program, and for your major to be updated from Pre-Interior Architecture and Design to Interior Architecture and Design. If you do not return the form by the deadline stated in your acceptance letter, you will forfeit your spot in the program to someone on the waitlist.
After we receive the ITE form, your major will be updated. Once it’s updated, you are officially an Interior Architecture and Design student!
