Interior Designer and Selections Coordinator, BuildSense

In 2016, Jessica Ocasio Adorno moved to North Carolina and began her graduate studies at UNCG. She quickly found herself engaged with the Interior Architecture Department community as she became a Center for Community-Engaged Design Fellow. This experience as well as her internship with Tiny Houses Greensboro helped support her thesis. Her thesis looked at micro-dwellings as a housing option for millennials and she had the opportunity to present her work at EDRA49 in Oklahoma and at the UNCG Graduate Research and Creativity Expo.

Shortly after graduating from UNCG in 2018, Jessica began working with a design-build firm in Durham. BuildSense is a residential firm that designs and builds custom, high-efficiency homes that foster delightful, healthy, and sustainable living. As the only Interior Designer and Selections Coordinator, Jessica has had the opportunity to work on 90% of the projects the firm takes on. Her primary role is to support all Project Managers through managing finish and fixture selections, as well as being heavily involved in drafting and creating construction document sets. She is quickly growing through this experience and is beginning to work more closely with multiple projects through drafting budgets, specifications, trade partner subcontracts, allowance summaries, and others. This has also led to her working as a Project Manager, with support from the Company Lead, on a small kitchen renovation. Her goal is to continue taking on more responsibilities in the future as she also works towards becoming NCIDQ certified.
