Amazing work by the our CC-ED student fellows and Prof. Travis!
IARc’s Travis Hicks and 2nd year student Cassandra Coleman presented at the 2019 North Carolina Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (NCAMPO) this past week in Charlotte. With community partners David Hampsten and Tim Toby, the four presented on the Smarter Gate City Corridor Project, a future plan for the downtown area and UNC Greensboro campus to become a more walkable, bikeable city that encourages local growth and innovation through long-term, grass-roots collaboration. During the same session one of Professor Hicks’s former students from NCSU, Erin Gillespie, now the Corridor Revitalization Coordinator for the City of Charlotte, gave a presentation on Tactical Urbanism and Placemaking in Charlotte. Asked about the experience, Coleman commented, “Attending NCAMPO in Charlotte was a great event for design minds. Meeting various professionals with different backgrounds and seeing how they work together to accommodate society’s needs was very inspiring to see.
