Interior Architecture

Maru Torres-Antonini, Ph.D.,Visiting Associate Professor, was invited to represent IARc and provide public service to the community by talking with the audience at the Triad Stage in downtown Greensboro on February 5th following the matinee showing of  Arthur Miller’s acclaimed play, the Price. In the play, two brothers revisit their long standing personal conflict as they argue over the value of a roomful of inherited furniture. Their markedly different relationships with their late father compromises the brothers’ ability to assess the monetary price of the heirlooms. Maru talked about about the environmental behavior (EB) issues underlying the storyline, elaborating on concepts such as the personal space “bubble” that surrounds us in everyday life, and our emotional attachment towards domestic objects. EB theory, e.g., tells us that our thoughts and feelings about domestic objects are extensions or mirror our own selves. The audience learned how the interior design field integrates social sciences to create designs that support our everyday lives.
