Exciting things are happening in the IARc Department. One of these things are the participation of the third years in the Steelcase NEXT Student Design Competition. The NEXT competition is created by Steelcase Company for undergraduate students. The project for this year’s competition is the creation of a Medical Office Building for a fictional company called NEXT. The students are designing collaborative spaces for the users and the workers of the space. The space will be utilized mostly by millennials and baby boomers, so how to design a space that is appealing to both generations is one of the main considerations for their design.

To gain more insight on the design of healthcare facilities the class took a trip to the renowned architectural firm, Perkins+Wills. During this visit, they got the opportunity to tour the facilities and received a presentation of what goes into the design of a healthcare facility.

The students will be working individually on their projects but at the end of the semester, two projects will be selected to officially enter the competition.
