The fourth year students are guided by Professor Travis Hicks, and their projects mark the culmination of design studio experiences in IARc. In professor Hicks’ studios, students use their knowledge and skills to develop comprehensive, capstone projects regarding community-engaged design. Distinct from community service projects, community engagement refers to the process of working with not only the “experts” in the design community but also the “users” or “locals,” those who will benefit directly from students’ work.
Balancing individual and group assignments, students are asked to consider 2- and 3D analyses of space and form, study a broad range of built precedents and visual precedents, practice their skills of analysis, interpretation, and generation of ideas.
