It’s the start of a new school year and along with new students we have a new set of faculty! We will be introducing them to you throughout the week and we’re starting off with our new Department Head and Professor, Lucinda Havenhand, PH.D. Let’s give her a warm welcome!

Lucinda is no stranger to IARc, her first academic appointment was in this very department from 1997-2001. Since then she has gone on to teach Environmental and Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University as well as Syracuse University. During her tenure at these previous institutions she has held different positions including Assistant Chair, Graduate Program Director, and Director of the School of Design. She has also written many publications, one most recently the “Mid-Century Modern Interiors: The Ideas that Shaped Interior Design in America”. Dr. Havenhand’s interests include design history and theory, gender and identity issues, social justice and design politics, sustainability and human environments.
